In the season 7 episode “Mad Dogs and Servicemen,” our beloved Radar O’Reilly mentions two songs in a letter home: “Diddy Wah Diddy” and “The Wayward Wind.
” Heartfelt? Yes. Historically accurate? Not even close.
Both songs came out in the mid-1950s—years after the Korean War setting of the show. Gary Burghoff (Radar) later admitted in a 1990s interview, “We were so focused on getting the emotion right, we missed the history lesson.” This scene still makes hardcore fans wince… and pause to fact-check.
In “Bug Out” (Season 5), Father Mulcahy is caught mid-shower when the camp is ordered to evacuate. The gag? He’s dripping wet in nothing but soap and panic.
